Mario Kart Tour - Nintendo's greedy money making scheme

Nintendo is no stranger to mobile gaming. Since their launch of Pokemon Go and Super Mario Run. Nintendo has brought their beloved franchises to the mobile screen.

Super Mario Run was Nintendo's first mobile platformer. It was a simplified version of New Super Mario Bros with simple controls so that it could be played with one finger.

The game was 'freemium', that is the first world of the game was free and the rest of the game was not. This showed Nintendo's face when it came to mobile gaming. Nintendo tries to obtain as much profit as possible from their games. The same ideology was passed down to Mario Kart Tour.

Just like Super Mario Run, Mario Kart Tour was a simplified version of modern Mario Kart titles with simplified controls and tracks. All the tracks were taken from previous games to invoke nostalgia in players. Playing the game was free but to score well in the races, specific character-kart combinations were imperative. This influenced players to spend money to unlock said characters. The loot box mechanics prevalent in the games nets even more money for Nintendo.

Super Mario Kart is shipped full of Gacha mechanics,  which causes players to spend more cash on the game. Nintendo also made a subscription service called the Gold Pass which gives you access to more rewards and 200cc,  a game mode which is free in the newer Mario Kart titles

Overall, Mario Kart Tour is a fun game, but to play it properly, spending cash is necessary. This chalks it up to be free cash for Nintendo.

A word of advice

Only play the game if you have lots of time to waste and money to spend.
