Realm of the Mad God : The Indie RPG that refused to die!

Realm of the Mad God, the flash indie browser produced by Deca Games released in 2011 didn't turn as many heads as other award-winning RPGs but come 2020, it has become a treat for all gamer alike to enjoy.

To start off, an aspect of RotMG that has kept its player base, still alive and kicking is its perma-death mechanic. That means if your character dies in the Realm. Your character and all the precious gear you were grinding for the last 56 hours is instantly deleted. A rage-inducing moment that has caused the casual players to leave the scene and only the hard-core gamers to remain.

But, at the end of the day, RotMG is a co-op shoot 'em up game that is satisfying on so many levels. With the wide range of character classes and playstyles, the game is surely enjoyable. Playing with friends gives the player happiness that no single player RPG can emulate.

RotMG's amount of gear leaves little to disappoint, with a large number of weapons, armour and abilities to choose from, each supporting a distinct playstyle. Its large amount of gear has also created online marketplaces wherein a dynamic economy is found in-game. No small feat for a multiplayer Flash game.

Another thing which keeps players coming back is a large number of dungeons found in-game, which results in players creating alliances and forging friendships in the face of difficult mobs to fight.

The community is also still very active, with updates being released fairly often. It is for this reason that many mourn the end of Flash at the end of the year, causing us to lose such great online gems like RotMG. Luckily, Deca Games has found a solution, with a Unity port of the game called Exalt. Hopefully, this brilliant RPG with its booming community can emigrate and escape the end of RotMG.
